2024 - 2025
A big congratulations to the Symphony of Saints, a joint pan ensemble of our SJC students and students of CIC who placed 1st in the National School Preliminaries! The band played "How Ah Living" by Farmer Nappy, arranged by Kwesi Moore, supported by Ms. Alea Nicholson and Ms. Anisha Romany, and drilled by Mr. Lemuel Davis and Mr. Mikhail Neils.
We congratulate the students and the team that led the band and give them our full support as the prepare for finals which will be held on Sunday 2nd February, at the Queen's Park Savannah.

CHESS UPDATE
Another stellar performance by one of our students, Adaya Johnson who participated in the National Youth Chess Championships 2025 ( 2-5 January 2025) and National Junior ( Under 20 ) Chess Championships 2025.
She did quite well and received the following results:
Under 14 Female: 2nd Place 5 pts out of 6
Under 20 Female: 3rd Place 5 pts out of 7
This was especially remarkable as she took a break from playing classical chess for a year.
The prize giving took place on the evening of Sunday 2 February 2025 at Asja Boys' College in San Fernando.

BADMINTON UPDATE
We are pleased to share some wonderful news regarding Amara and Aliyah Urquhart's outstanding performances at the Junior Nationals Round Robin Singles competition. Amara emerged undefeated in all eight of her games, while Aliyah also achieved an impressive feat by remaining undefeated in seven games. Their dedication and hard work have truly paid off, and we are incredibly proud of their accomplishments.
Amara and Aliyah went on to represent our district in the Schools Tournament, which is scheduled took place on the 28th and 29th of January at the Racquet Centre in Tacarigua. They continue to demonstrate their skill and sportsmanship at this prestigious event.
Additionally, the Under-13 and Under-15 Tier B semifinal rounds also took place during the tournament. Our students, Ella Marie Young and Christine Zhou, competed in these categories.
These students have demonstrated exceptional talent, perseverance, and teamwork throughout the competition. Their success reflects not only their hard work but also the unwavering support of our coaching staff and the school’s commitment to fostering excellence in sports.

Awards 2025
Our anual Awards Ceremony to recognise students' success in academics and extra curriculars for the school year 2023-2024 was held on January 9, 2025. During this most important event on our school calendar, students were presented with awards for outstanding performances throughout the academic year, their performance in external CXC examinations, involvement and excellence in sports, their school spirit, service to others and community, and culture.
We were honoured to have His Worship, Alderman Chinua Alleyne, Mayor of Port-of-Spain as the guest speaker for the day, as a proud SCJ past pupil (Form 6).
The ceremony was organised by a committee of dedicated teachers led by Mrs. Hélène Honoré.

TRACK UPDATE
Our students continue to excel at track and field events throughout the term. Here's an update of a few events in which we participated.
The Hill Run
In the final middle distance event of the year, The Hill Run, held November 2024, 8 students took part and we medaled in three categories.
In U15 girls- Leah De Freitas, 2nd
In U17 girls - Arya Siewrattan, 2nd and Alafia Charles, 3rd
Over 17 girls - Chelsea Fuller, 3rd
Secondary School's 5K Road Race
Congrats to our 6 representatives at the Secondary School's 5K Road Race. Leah De Freitas came first in the Girl's U15 and Zahra Thomas placed 3rd in the same category.
CARIFTA GYMNAST!
Gymnast, Gabrielle Christopher, gave an exceptional performance at the inaugural CARIFTA Artistic Gymnastics Championships, held November 29 - 30 in Jamaica.
Gabrielle, performing at the USAG Level 5, placed 1st individual overall, 1st in the Uneven Bars and Balance Beam and 3rd place on floor. She was also in the 1st pace team for Level 5.

Success for Scorpionettes!
This year the St. Joseph's Convent Port-of-Spain Scorpionettes Hip Hop team participated for the first time in the ALL DANCE AMERICA competition held in Panama from September 18 - 23.
The team comprised of some 13 dancers. We placed first in our division of Hip Hop large group open. Two of our dancers, Kenisha Des Vignes and Alisha Cabralis also placed second in the Hip Hop duo. The team was lead by Ms. Valerie Shepherd and Mrs. Yasmin Khan-Lee Wen who have been supporting the team for 10 years. We are very proud of our girls' achievement having represented SJC POS and Trinidad and Tobago!
