1M Presents Scenes from Romeo and Juliet
On Wednesday June 21st, the Theatre was transformed to a ballroom, balcony and garden for the scenes from Romeo and Juliet. Under the direction of Mrs. Schuller-Maraj, the students of Form 1M acted, controlled the sound and lights and were stage hands. It was well-received by the staff and few parents who attended, as well as the other Form 1s.
Triathlon - Triple Threat
The SJC Triple Threat Triathlon team had outstanding performances in the 2023 Rainbow Cup in Tobago on Saturday 10th June. In spite of many obstacles faced during the race, they all finished. The Triple Threat team entered 25 students in the various races and we are indeed proud of every single student who competed. You have done our school proud!

Corpus Christi
On Thursday 8th June, a small contingent of students represented the school at the annual Corpus Christi Mass at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. While praying the rosary and singing hymns, we processed up Henry Street, across Park Street via Picadilly to Nelson Street and then back to the Cathedral forecourt. There was the Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament at Rosary Church and at the Cathderal. It was a joyous celebration. Photos taken by L. Lezama-Lee Sing and M. Huggins
Cycling
Makaira Wallace (5 Earth Sciences) represented Trinidad and Tobago at the 2023 Junior PanAmerican Track Cycling Championships 2023 in Paraguay. She was one of five athletes who represented the country and was the only female representative.
This is indeed a wonderful accomplishment. We are very proud of Makaira. Keep up the great work!

SJC Scorpions - The Showcase
The SJC POS Cheerleading and Cheer Hip-Hop Teams hosted a Showcase on Saturday 6th May, 2023. The event was a requirement in preparation for the National Cheer Championships in July, providing teams with an opportunity to perform their routines before a live audience. It was an enjoyable Saturday morning seeing the girls shine! Guest performers included Lacey Rae George of 3K, Christina Gooding of 3L and Alisha Cabralis & Kanisha DesVignes of the Future Productions Club.

Cricket, lovely cricket
On Wednesday 3rd May and Friday 5th May, the Form 4 students took on the Teachers in a cricket match. In the 1st innings, the teachers scored 38 runs off after 7 overs. In the 2nd innings, the teachers bowled the students out convincingly for 18 runs. It was indeed an exciting game and fun for the school community as teachers and students cheered on the players. There was batting showcase by Jordane Dookie after the match.
Career Day @ SJC POS
We are grateful for the SJCPOS Past Pupils' Association for organising this career day exposing the students to a variety of professions. The students learnt more than just about the careers.

Speakers spoke about the importance of networking, mental and physical health and dealing with loss. They addressed that the subject choices you make in school need not restrict your options for future careers.

Tennis
Anya Romany (1K), Em-Miryam Campbell-Smith (1N), Gabriella Prince (3M) participated in the Powerade Barbados U14 Junior International. Em-Miryam Campbell-Smith won both the Girls' Singles and Doubles crowns in this tournament and Gabriella Prince was the runner-up in the Singles.
Jordane Dookie (4 Earth Sciences) participated in the ITF World Tennis Tour J60 Cop Ruiseñor Tournament in the Dominican Republic where she was the Runner-up in the Girls' Doubles.
Track
Kayleigh Forde (5 Earth Sciences) participated in the Women's U-20 1500m at the 2023 CARIFTA Games in the Bahamas. She placed fifth in the race.
Football
Kaitlyn Darwent (3N) and Mikaela Yearwood (3N) competed in the qualifying stages of the 2023 Concacaf Women’s U-20 Championship in Curaçao. T&T won two of their three games.
Swimming
Aimee Le Blanc (2N) swam in the 1500m race and the 5K Open Water in the 2023 CARIFTA Games in Curaçao. She placed 6th in the 13-14 Girls' 1500m and 8th in the 5K Open Water race.

UCL Lecturer visits
Dr. Guyanne Wilson (Class of 2002), Quirk Lecturer in English Linguistics from University College London (UCL) visited her alma mater on the 20th April 2023.
She spoke to some students from Forms 3 - 6 at lunchtime about her work at UCL and after lunch, she spoke to the Upper 6s during their Caribbean Studies period on The Black Atlantic and Language. Dr. Wilson kept the students engaged and encouraged them to study the Humanities. It was indeed an enriching experience for all.
National Aquathlon
The SJC Triple Threat competed against National athletes at the National Aquathlon at Las Cuevas Beach on Sunday 16th April. The girls did the school proud.

SJC POS TT Equestrians in Colombia
Caitlin Whitling (Form 4 Earth Sciences), Caitlyn Sebastian (Form 4 Business) and Sophia Samaroo (Form 3K) were part of a Trinidad and Tobago Equestrian Association squad of 12 that spent 8 days in El Tambre, Bogota, Colombia at a jumping and eventing clinic over Easter being trained by Colombian eventing trainer Jorge Gallego (Gold medal, Bolivarian games among many accolades), and Juan Carlos Garcia (Olympics eventing and Jumping rider twice for Colombia, and then later twice for Italy, in four summer Olympics games).
The trip ended with a jumping show where the girls were able to demonstrate their training, and a prize giving ceremony. Well done Girls!

Kayla Carrington of 1N, participated in the Port of Spain Corporation Mayor’s Easter Bonnet Parade 2023. Her portrayal, “Easter at the Red House” won her 1st place in the Girl’s 13-18 category. She also participated in the “Natural Materials” Category. Based on both portrayals she was awarded the prize “Queen of the Day” among participants aged 7-19.

Friday 17th February - Carnival Friday - was a day of creativity and fun at SJC POS. For weeks before, classrooms turned into Mas camps and rehearsal spaces for dance presentations. The winners in each year group were:

Congratulations to Aimee Le Blanc (2N) who swam the 1500m freestyle in 20 min 37.64 seconds, 13 seconds below the Carifta A standard qualifying time. She will compete at the Carifta Games in Curaçao from April 8-11, 2023. Good luck Aimee!

In a wonderful showcasing of synchronized, powerful and disciplined paddling at Chaguaramas on Sunday 2nd April, 2023, our Dragon Boat team placed 1st in the under 21 Female standard category.
In the Under 21 Female small category (10 persons), the team came 3rd after placing 1st in all the heats leading up to the final.

On Sunday 26th March from 9:00am - 1:30pm, Lower 6 Students came out in their numbers to help power wash and paint a building in Santa Cruz which will be used to house pediatric cancer patients and their families. Well done Lower 6s!
UN World Down Syndrome Day Conference 2023
3 students from each Form 1 class represented our school at the UN World Down Syndrome Day Conference 2023 on Tuesday 21st March. The theme centred on the need for persons with Down Syndrome and other differently abled persons to be included in the mainstream of our society and to be given the right be included in decision making about their own lives.
The keynote speaker, Monika Myers, is the first Canadian with Down Syndrome to be a model. Her parents included her in all activities. She swims, skies, is an entrepreneur and an advocate for persons with Down Syndrome.
School Walk-a-Thon and Colour Splash
Students had a blast at SJCPOS Walk-a-Thon and Colour Splash on Sunday 19th March.
After the prayer and Zumba warm-up, all set off for the walk through Federation Park and around the Savannah, returning to our school grounds for the Colour Splash.
1L won the prize for the greatest participation and the most money collected.

Triathletes Triumph
The Triathlon Team, Team Triple Threat competed in the River Raid Trail Run on the 5th March 2023. Our girls swept the U15 Girls category with Sarah Ahwai (4 Earth Sci) copping 1st place, Ashleigh Ribiero (3N) 2nd and Iris Cui (3M) with 3rd. Rori Gitten did very well, placing 2nd in the Overall Women's category, beating several adult runners.
Team Triple Threat also competed in the 2023 TTTF Secondary Schools Duathlon on the 12th March 2023. They emerged triumphant in several categories and did the school proud with the following results:

School Principal, Mrs. Anna Pounder, was awarded the Platinum Award for over 30 years of the service to the school
Congratulations to all students and members of staff who received awards at our Award Ceremony held on the 12th of January for the year 2021-2022. Awards were given for excellence in academics, achievements in sports, service to school and exemplary personal qualities.
Our U6 and L6 students received awards for their outstanding performance in the CAPE Unit 1 and 2 exams. Congratulations to Zia Romany and Nicolette Shallow of Lower 6 who received an Award of Achievement. Nicolette also received an Award of Merit with Honours, along with Kerisse Titre. Isabelle D’Abadie was awarded an Award of Merit with Distinction and was also our top CAPE Unit One student! The top CAPE Unit 2 student was Alexia Trim and the top CSEC student was Annelisse Silva. Congrats to all our students who sat CAPE and CSEC exams!
Additionally, 34 students were named to the Principal’s List, a result of their fine personal qualities and their commendable school spirit! The Past Pupils Association Trophy was presented to our Head Girl, Chelsea Mc Comie.
This year we were also pleased to honour our Long Service staff members, 12 of whom received Bronze (15-20 years of service), 14 awarded Silver (21-25 years) and 6 received Gold (26-30 years). The Platinum award for over 30 years of service was presented to Mrs. Anna Pounder (School Principal) and Mr. David Assing. Congratulations to all our long standing members of staff, we are honoured to have you in our school family and appreciative of all that you do.

SJCPOS Footballers won the Trinidad Final against St. Augustine Secondary School 3-1. They play Signal Hill Secondary School in the finals of the U15 Intercol at CIC grounds on Wednesday 14th December at 3pm.

Dookie strikes gold in USA
Jordanne Dookie (4 Earth Sci) won the 18 and under final of the One Love Tennis Junior Fall Championships in Georgia, USA on 22nd October 2022.
Campbell-Smith ranked 2nd
Em-Miryam Campbell-Smith (1N) is now ranked 2nd in the Central American and the Caribbean Tennis Confederation (COTECC) and represented Trinidad and Tobago recently at the San Jose Bowl Junior Tennis Tournament.

RBC Race for the Kids
Once again, our school took part in the RBC Race for the Kids on Sunday 9th October 2022. We had the greatest number of participants among all schools in this charity run.

Making Waves at the 15th Chinese Arrival Dragon Boat Festival
Our Dragon Boat Team, SJC Wave Breakers, did us proud on the 8th and 9th October in Chaguaramas.
They placed first in both the 200m and 500m U21 female categories. They were the only female team in the 200m U21 open category where they placed third.

Forde champion in the Secondary Schools Track and Field 6K
Kayleigh Forde (5 Earth Sci) ran in 25:35 to win the Girls U-17 category in the SSTK Cross Country Championships. She also placed second overall of all women who competed.
She is pictured below with Samantha Shukla, past student of SJCPOS, who copped gold in the women's category of the 6K.
Lue-Fatts successful at 10th Commonwealth Karate Championship
Congrats to the Lue-Fatt twins who represented our country in September in Birmingham.
Michelle (U6 Business) won two medals, gold in the club senior team kata and bronze in the elite senior team kata.
Roshelle (U6 Business) copped four medals - gold in the club senior team kata, silver in the elite junior female - 48kg category and two bronze medals in the senior elite team kata and club junior female - 53kg.
