BEYOND ACADEMICS

The Whole Person...

The Personal Development Program extends from Forms 1 – 4 and is focused on the non-academic development of our students.  It supports their holistic advancement, and seeks to equip them with the social and emotional life skills necessary to function as good, caring and responsible citizens.  This interactive course includes guest lectures, videos, role playing and other techniques to make the content interesting and meaningful to the students.

There is a different focus in each year group and includes such themes as caring for the body, culinary skills, craft, sewing skills, choices and accountability, values and attitudes, relationships and time management skills.

The success of this program depends on support from our ‘PD moms.’ Each year group has a team of volunteer mothers who work together with the Dean and a parent from the Parents Support Group, to deliver the specific content and be available to the students. The girls usually form close relationships with these ‘moms’ and benefit from their attention, wisdom and guidance.

Personal Care

The pastoral care program makes a valuable contribution to the spiritual and emotional well being of our school community. It aims to provide support and guidance about ethics, values, relationships and spiritual issues together with the provision of pastoral care and enhancing student engagement with the broader community.

Student Leadership

School Prefects are Form 6 students nominated by their peers and chosen by the faculty. They play a vital role in ensuring more effective management within our school and this system teaches our senior students the values of co-operation, responsibility and service while they  gain valuable leadership and organisational experience.

Empowering our students to assume positions of leadership and responsibility, is stressed within St. Joseph’s Convent, P.O.S. Class  representatives on the Student Council act as a voice for the concerns of the student body and serve as a liaison between them and staff and administration. Their mission is 'to liaise with students, staff and local school board and the parents association on matters of importance within the school community and help to promote the values of the school.

Extra- curricular activities & school clubs

We encourage our students to become actively involved in at least one extracurricular activity and they are offered a wide variety- there is really something for everyone.

Participation in these clubs  provides opportunities for our students to become more involved in their school community and feel a greater sense of belonging. It also builds self-confidence, encourages positive relationships with peers,  teaches discipline and team work,  develops club-specific talents, enhances communication skills, allows them to develop leadership skills and affords them opportunities to interact with the wider community.
