SCHOOL AWARDS 2016
Our Annual School Awards Ceremony was held on Tuesday 22nd November, 2016 in the school chapel. It was well attended by recipients and their famiies, and they were addressed where students from various forms and classes were honored for their performances in academic studies as well as other extra curricular activities. The Scholarship Winners for the past CSEC and CAPE examinations were also awarded with various trophies, certificates and medals. The following images show just some of the students who received their awards during the ceremony.
DIVALI 2016
St. Joseph's Convent, Port of Spain held their Annual Divali celebrations 2016 showcasing some of their talents based on this cultural event such as playing various instruments, dances and clothing.

PRESIDENT'S MEDAL WINNER
Once again, our scholars have achieved great success on the national stage! Aspiring lawyer, Raquel LeBlanc (see photo left) was blessed to be awarded the 2016 President's Medal in the area of Business Studies, Creative and Performing Arts, General Studies, Language Arts, Humanities and Technical Studies. In addition to this graduating class' outstanding achievement in all receiving full advanced level certificates, they were also awarded a total of 28 national scholarships based on the Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination results this year.
Unsurprisingly given our that teaching and learning in our school community is grounded in our faith and tradition, Raquel and all our successful alumni noted the importance of prayer, of strong family support, a personal commitment to excellence, their individual determined efforts and the invaluable professionalism of our teaching faculty.
We congratulate them, their friends and families and we are confident that the skills, knowledge and values they have learned here will hold them in good stead, as they go on to what we are certain, will be great success.

THE KEYS TO THE CITY
From the arrival on 29th January, 1836, of 5 sisters; Pauline Lefevre, Sr. Onesime, Superioress; Adelaide Delorme, Sr. Scholastique; Antoinette Beurier, Sr. Pelagie; Marguerite de Wint, Sr. Louis de Gonzague; Marie Josephine Remi, Sr. Theotiste and Civilise Jacqumel, Sr. Gabrielle; the Congregation of Sisters of Saint Joseph of Cluny has made an immeasurable contribution to the educational community and to society in general in Trinidad & Tobago.
Since Blessed Anne Marie founded her Congregation in Cluny, Burgundy under the patronage of St. Joseph in 1807, the primary aim of the order has been to care for orphans and educate children. Grounded in their tradition and faith, they have offered thousands of girls in this country, an education which enriched character and inspired a lifelong passion for learning and personal excellence, while providing them with the skills, knowledge and values necessary to become confident, passionate young women, eager to play leading roles in shaping our country and the world.
On Thursday, 22nd September, 2016, in recognition of their efforts, the Mayor of Port of Spain, Keron Valentine recognised this, and bestowed Sister Annetta Alexander, Provincial Superior of the order with the Keys of the City of Port of Spain. (Click below to read the full text of his address.)
The ceremony which was held in the school’s chapel, was attended by Minister of Education, the Honourable Anthony Garcia, and Fathe Clyde Harvey represented the Archbishop of Trinidad and Tobago, Father Joseph Everard Harris. Also in attendance were our immediate past principals, Mrs. Elizabeth Crouch and Mrs. Jennifer Annandsingh.
AN SJCPOS STAR SHINING BRIGHT
Vahni Capildeo, an SJCPOS star shining brightly!
SJCPOS alumni, poet Vahni Capildeo has won one of the most prestigious poetry awards in the UK and Ireland, the 2016 Forward prize for best poetry collection. Vahni’s collection Measures of Expatriation, explores ideas of belonging and of home.
Chair of the judges, Malika Booker, called her collection “a book you will forever be opening”, and noted that she, ‘is trying to articulate something quite hard to pin down and isn’t afraid to boldly take risks in language and layout.
Vahni, who has an Oxford DPhil in Old Norse and has previously worked as a OED lexicographer, received the £15,000 prize at a ceremony at the Royal Festival Hall in London. She. She comes from a well-known Trinidadian family of politicians and writers, which includes Booker prize-winning novelist VS Naipaul.
Congatulations, Vahni, we are so proud of you!
VARIETY SHOW 2016
The Form 1 rocked the stage at the Annual Variety Show 2016. Supported by their families and the hard working members of the Form 1 Team, led by the dauntless Sr. Lorraine Joseph, they practiced hard for weeks, sacrificing weekends and public holidays.
And then it was finally time, and on the 8th and 9th of June, they took to the stage. Of course, to the surprise of no one, whether singing, dancing acting, tumbling, they shone! And we are all so very proud of them all.

CHEER XPLOSION 2016
SJC Sweeps!
On Sunday 26th June, 2016 the Trinidad and Tobago Cheer Federation held their annual national championships at the Centre of Excellence auditorium in Macoya. Gates opened at 2.00pm, but the SJCPOS Scorpions and supporters were in the house long before...
The entire auditorium was awash with glitter and bows on every member of each of the 20 participating teams. It was noticeable though that blue and white were the predominant colours and that many of the team uniforms were dismayingly similar.
First up for us was the Hip Hop Dance Senior Division.
Then the Level 2 Stunt Team showed their stuff!
Our teams all dominated the floor, winning 4 of the 5 categories in which they participated on the night!
Congratulations to everyone, your routines really spoke to all those arduous training sessions you girls have put in since last September! skill and over all competence in performing your craft.

CAREER FAIR 2016
Our annual Career Fair 2016 was held on our school compound on June 21st. We owe a great debt to the representatives of the many companies and academic institutions from around the country who came to showcase some of their portfolio's and knowledge to students who may potentially choose their career path in one of these various fields.

LANGUAGE DAY 2016
On Friday May 27th 2016, our entire school sounded like a mini United Nations as the Department of Modern Languages presented Language Day 2016!
The entire day was dedicated to the celebration of languages and the key role that language plays in every aspect of life. Having selected a country, students from Form 1 to 4 were invited to decorate their classrooms accordingly and to take part in a cultural show during lunch. Guest speakers were invited from various embassies and high commissions, the University of the West Indies and other cultural groups. to make presentations. The afternoon sessions were spent doing practical activities in workshops. Students seized the opportunity to learn sign language, a bit about Braille, dance, cook, sing, play music and games of all sorts, enjoy Mystery Skype sessions and watch movies and music videos.
With the help of friends, parents, well-wishers, teachers and students, and of course our brilliant guests, the event proved to be a resounding success and everyone is eagerly anticipating our next Language Day!
MARTINIQUE VISIT
Cluny schools in Martinique and Trinidad make contact!
In January 2016, a group of 15 students (10 girls and 5 boys) from the Pensionnat de Saint Joseph de Cluny in Martinique spent a week at the homes of students from our school. The boys were hosted by their male counterparts at Queen’s Royal College.
The visiting students were accompanied by two teachers, Mr. Dominique Mallet (English) and Mr. Alain Dubourg (P.E.). The experience was an enriching one on many levels, and on the last day of their visit, the Martinicans attended our school and even got a taste of our local culture.
Then, for one week in April during the Easter holidays, 9 girls and 6 boys made the return visit to Martinique!
Our bonds of friendship were cemented as our contingent of teachers and students, led by M. D. Assing and Mme. Assing, was hosted by our Cluny counterparts in Fort de France.
The trip proved to be an exciting learning experience for all and future exchanges are planned.
